Support with using public transport and escorting on journeys

A great way for vulnerable adults to maintain independence is to continue with trips outside of the home. The thought of using public transport to travel anywhere can be daunting for many people however it can be an important aspect of day-to-day life, as well as being beneficial for an individuals’ wellbeing. Keeping active and being able to do day-to-day tasks independently, such as going for a weekly food shop, visiting the library or local community centre, attending appointments, visiting a place of worship, or just getting out to see friends at a local coffee morning are all activities we can help your loved one with.

At Bridgewater Home Care we put the safety of our clients at the forefront of our service, whether that be assisting on a bus journey or helping with a walk around the block to keep active and get some much-needed fresh air.

We strive to ease any worries that you, as a family member, or your loved one, might have when they are getting out and about. We also aim to reduce any barriers keeping our clients from continuing to be involved in the local community. We focus on reassuring both our clients and family members that travel and community engagement is still a possibility.

We can assist with local journeys including getting on and off public transport (including taxis) safely, helping with the purchase of tickets or passes, helping with the communication between client and driver, arranging times of arrival so your family members get home safely and handling any other obstacles that may arise when using these methods of transport.

Our Care Specialists are all fully insured to escort clients to and from locations in their car, enabling loved ones to continue getting out and about and making essential journeys. This can be especially beneficial to those living on their own with no access to a vehicle and puts families’ minds at ease that loved ones are not making journeys unaccompanied.

Our transport and escorting service can be built into the existing services we provide on a day-to-day basis to ensure routine and consistency, so there are no surprises with your loved one’s schedule. We find it really helps, especially when living with a form of dementia, that a familiar and consistent routine is kept up to ensure familiarity. All our Care Specialists can dedicate time, as required, to assist with journeys to ensure your loved one gets out and about when they need to and stays well connected with their local community.
