Get to Know the Bridgewater Home Care Wigan Team – Carol Gillespie

Carol Gillespie has been with the Bridgewater family since 2018 and loves her current role as a Care Specialist.

Carol kindly answered some quick-fire questions to help us get to know her better and to find out what inspired her to work in care :

1. What is your favourite genre of film?

“My favourite genre of film is crime thrillers. I like to guess who did it.”

2. Who is your ideal dinner party guest and why?

“My ideal dinner guest would have to be David Attenborough. I could listen to him all day. He has such a lovely voice and the tales and adventures he could talk about would keep me riveted.”

3. One fact about you that your colleagues may not know?

” A long time ago when sunbeds had no power but were the rage, I went for a sunbed session after work and the staff forgot about me and locked up and left me there!! I had to break out (this was before mobile phones, I might add!) ”

4. What is your favourite season of the year and why?

“My favourite season is Autumn. I love this time of year when the leaves are changing to golds and reds and there is a nip in the air. Walking through woods and the crisp leaves crunching underfoot just make me feel happy! “

5. What is one thing you would put on your bucket list?

” I’m pretty much a home bird but one thing I would put on my bucket list is to go on the Orient Express! “

 6. When you’re not working how do you like to spend your time?

” When I’m not working I like to spend time outside in the fresh air (weather permitting). I love my gardening and going for walks. I also like reading and watching cookery programmes which then give me inspiration to bake! “

7. What is one thing you enjoy most about your role?

“The one thing I love most about my job is making people smile.”

8. What is your professional background?

“Since leaving school, I went to work for an insurance company, initially as a filing clerk  and then moved through the ranks to deal with personal injury claims of all types.”

9. What inspired you to join the care sector?

“Sadly my mother in law had Alzheimer’s and has since passed away. She stayed at home for her care and I could see the benefits she gained from this. I was getting frustrated with the “compensation culture” of insurance claims so here I am at Bridgewater Home Care and have been for the last 3 years. “

Thank you Carol for all your hard work and dedication.
