Bridgewater Home Care Bolton team have been supporting The Lewy Body Society’s campaign to raise awareness this week called #DottyDays. The campaign has been running since 1st June and ends on 7th June 2020.
Lewy body dementia, also known as dementia with Lewy bodies, is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease dementia,accounting for 15-20% of all people with dementia.There are presently over 700,000 people with dementia in the UK and this number is projected to rise to 1,000,000 by 2021 unless a cure is found.
Abigail Sharples , The Care Manager at the Bolton office told us that ” staff have been dressing up in dotty outfits all week ! “, she went on to highlight that “Within the home care industry, it can be difficult to feel part of a team when carers are so often on the road, travelling independently to visit clients, and events like these help to create a sense of community for all members of our team as well as promoting a great cause . ”
Award Winning Bridgewater Home Care provides personal care and companionship services to people across Wigan , Warrington, Bolton and the North West and specialise in care for people living with dementia. We have been recruiting care workers throughout the pandemic and have received numerous applications from people working in the hospitality sector , some of whom have been furloughed : individuals with transferable skills who, pre-pandemic, would never have considered a career in social care.
Throughout this pandemic we have worked with skills for care to devise a new online training system and streamline a much faster DBS process to ensure we had enough staff available .
Whether the new recruit has never worked in healthcare before or has previous experience, we provide one to one support in order to provide the most suitable training. This was done in person before the Coronavirus pandemic but now we do this through a combination of online learning and training whilst socially distanced.
