This week should have seen the start of Dementia Action Week, with a lot of events due to take place sadly having to be cancelled .The leading dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society says their events have been postponed until later in the year .

Bridgewater Home Care thinks it is still important to highlight how social isolation can have a huge impact on people living with dementia and how just reaching out to talk can make a difference for the better.

There are over 200 subtypes of dementia, but the five most common are: Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia. Some people may have a combination of different types of dementia and these are commonly called mixed dementia.

Regardless of which type of dementia is diagnosed and what part of the brain is affected, each person will experience dementia in their own unique way.

Quality care at home can have a positive impact on those with dementia. A regular routine, a familiar environment, and good company can help make your loved one feel safe and enhance their quality of life. Home care is an opportunity for your family to be able to stay in their home for as long as possible.

That’s why it’s critical to us at Bridgewater Home Care that we offer our carers unparalleled training and guidance to understand the nuances of supporting people with dementia. We ensure that our team are equipped with the latest Alzheimer’s education and home care techniques, so that you have peace of mind that your loved one is cared for by a competent, trusted, and kind professional.

Two studies funded by the Alzheimer’s Society reveal that around a third of people with dementia and two thirds of carers of people with dementia already experience loneliness, with numbers expected to rise as a result of the UK’s coronavirus lockdown. You can read more about these studies here : https://bit.ly/3fDoAmj

Via the Dementia Connect support line on 0333 150 3456, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Advisers provide information and practical measures on how to stay safe, active and social during this difficult time. Phone lines are open 7 days a week.
