Vascular dementia is the second most common type of\u00a0dementia, after Alzheimer’s, and affects around 150,000 people in the UK (Alzheimer\u2019s UK).<\/p>\n
Vascular dementia occurs if the oxygen supply to the brain is reduced. This can often be because of a narrowing of blocking of the blood vessels leading to the brain, and in turn can cause brain cells to become damaged, or die. Vascular dementia can also be a result of a stroke or a series of small strokes, or caused by disease which has affected the small blood vessels deep in the brain.<\/p>\n
Symptoms are varied and can overlap with those of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, for example difficulties with concentration, planning or problem solving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
